Corporate History

From its founding roots in 1988 with the acquisition of Hillview Farms, the Nu-Gro Corporation has dramatically grown to become the leading Canadian manufacturer and marketer of consumer and commercial lawn and garden products and is the world's largest manufacturer of controlled release nitrogen products for the merchant market.

1998 - Hillview Farms
  • Nu-Gro. Initial public Offering.
  • Purchased Hillview Farms.

Putnam Plant
  • Form a Joint Venture with Cold Springs Agri Services.

Cold Springs Agri Services
  • Bought out Cold Springs Agri Services.

Omnicology

  • Sold C-I-L pest control line to Wilson for a 20% equity interest.

  • Increase ownership from 20% to 100% in Wilson Laboratories.

July 1999 - The Nu-Gro Corporation
  • Consolidated Head office and two sales offices and warehouses to new location in Brantford, ON.
July 1999 - Mor-Pac Limited
  • Purchased 50% interest in Mor-Pac Limited, Brighton, Ontario. Transfer production of liquid pest control products to Mor-Pac.

January 2000 - MERIT
  • Nu-Gro appointed exclusive Canadian supplier of Merit® by Bayer.

May

May 2000 - ProTurf
  • Acquisition of the Canadian professional turf business of The Scotts Company.

October

October 2000 - The Nu-Gro Corporation
  • New manufacturing, warehouse and distribution facility opens in Crossfield, Alberta.

November

November 2000 - Vigoro
  • Acquisition of the business of Pursell Vigoro Canada. Includes the brands Vigoro®, So-Green®, and Par-Ex®.

July

July 2001 - EroGreen Seeds Inc.
  • Acquisition of 70% of EroGreen Seeds Inc.

September

September 2001 - Nutralene
  • Nu-Gro completes construction of state-of-the-art Methylene Urea Plant.

2002

July

July 2002 - Pickseed
  • Supply agreement with Pickseed Canada Inc. to maximize sales of grass seed. Includes licence to use the Pickseed and Oseco® brands.
July 2001 - EroGreen & Mor-Pac
  • Increased ownership in EroGreen and Mor-Pac to 100%.

October 2002 - Plant-Prod
  • Acquired assets associated with the Consumer Products Division.

Agronomic Growth Industries (AGI)
  • Formed a joint venture with Agronomic Growth Industries (AGI) to construct and operate a fertilizer granulation plant at Nu-Gro's Putnam Facility.

June 2003 - Grigg Brothers
  • Alliance with Grigg Brothers for exclusive distribution of Foliar Fertilizers in Canada.
TurfTec Online™
  • Launched a virtual nutrient management tool available to turfgrass managers.

  • Acquisition of the business of Greenleaf Products including the brands Greenleaf, Later’s and Bell’s
